Here we go again …

Just when it seems life at Mythos Academy can’t get any more dangerous, the Reapers of Chaos manage to prove me wrong. It was just a typical night at the Library of Antiquities — until a Reaper tried to poison me. The good news is I’m still alive and kicking. The bad news is the Reaper poisoned someone else instead.

As Nike’s Champion, everyone expects me to lead the charge against the Reapers, even though I’m still hurting over what happened with Spartan warrior Logan Quinn. I’ve got to get my hands on the antidote fast — otherwise, an innocent person will die. But the only known cure is hidden in some creepy ruins — and the Reapers are sure to be waiting for me there …

It is no secret that I love anything Jennifer puts out.  I dive right into every book of hers the moment it hits my inbox. Gwen has not had an easy time since her Moms death and the moment the world of Mythos Academy was revealed to her. She has been to the brink of death and back, she has made and lost friends. She is Nike's Champion and non of her struggles are going to end anytime soon. Luckily she has great allies to help her on her journey.

MIDNIGHT FROST brings us outside the Mythos Academy walls. Gwen and her friends must find a rare flower that only grows in one spot, at one time so that they can save someone close to their hearts from the poison that was meant for Gwen. Book 5 had a bit of a different feel to it. There was plenty of action moments but not as much as earlier books. There is a lot of focus on Gwen and her role as Nike's Champion, her feelings, her family and friendships, etc. There is a lot of growth on Gwen's part and it is not all easy. Since it is not that big of a shock, Logan does come back which brings feelings out from both sides. As always I loved watching all the characters work together towards their common goal. Their protectiveness towards Gwen is always awesome to witness.

As the series progresses I find myself wanting the next book more and more. I look forward to seeing what Gwen and her allies will accomplish next.

I gave it 4/5 stars

Guest Blog & Giveaway: Haven by Celia Breslin

UFI welcomes Celia Breslin Author of Havin. Thanks for Joining us!!

Haven’s Soundtrack

No doubt about it, music feeds my Muse.

For Haven, she required daily doses of industrial rock, techno (big beat and minimal), electro, breakbeat, and house. Sounds loud, right? Well, Haven IS a dance club. *grins* And my Muse likes to shake it on the virtual dance floor.

Muse required techno and house music to paint club scenes, hard-driving big beat techno and breakbeat for action sequences, and a little industrial rock for the scenes in between. Of course, she also demanded silence from time to time, to listen to the winds snap around my house, swirling fog over my roof and the nearby hills... And poignant moments required a softer, gentler type of tune...

Haven’s Playlist:

* Industrial rock - Nine Inch Nails (NIN) - The Fragile, With Teeth
* Big beat techno - The Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation, The Fat of the Land, Invaders Must Die
* Minimal techno - Justin Maxwell, John Tejada
* Electro - Bass Kittens - Inside the Electron
* Electro - Volsoc - Compuphonic
* Breakbeat - Bass Kittens - Four Things I Hate About You
* Breakbeat - Meat Beat Manifesto - Actual Sounds and Voices, Satyricon
* House - DJs Stacy Burket and Steve Lawler
* Kate Bush - The Sensual World

Song Sampler:
I’ve made a HAVEN playlist on Spotify -

Enjoy!

San Francisco nightclub owner Carina Tranquilli works hard, plays hard, and never allows the death of her parents and her twelve-year memory gap to get her down. But her life takes a left turn when a witch attacks her on her twenty-fifth birthday.

Three hauntingly familiar vampires emerge to reveal she possesses a latent power. To protect her from their enemies, they admit to wiping her memories clean and abandoning her as a child, but now they need her help. With evil’s minions hounding her every move, and everything she thought she knew turned on its head, Carina must harness her burgeoning power, unravel her vampire family’s web of deceit, and fight to have a love life...without getting killed in the process.
